Ways to Give

There are many ways to show your support of iCubed.  If you are a new donor we strongly suggest you contact our Associate Director, Barbara Muhitch, at 401-277-5310 to arrange for a site visit, tour of our lab space and introduction to various scientific projects currently underway.  This is vital to best align your giving priorities to our mission and to cultivate our donors into active champions of our impactful work.


Cash Gifts

Cash gifts (or checks) are the most common form of giving.  Make your gift online by clicking here.  If making a payment online please make sure to 1.) Click the list of giving opportunities 2.)  Select “Other” under the “URI Foundation:  Other” heading and 3.) As a final step, notate iCubed/CELS to ensure that the gift is allocated to the proper URI program.  iCubed is a unit within the College of Environment and Life Sciences (CELS) at the University of Rhode Island.

Gifts can also be made by mail, phone or wire transfer.


Specific iCubed Needs

  • Undergraduate Students for a Summer Internship, 40 hours per week- $7,000
  • Undergraduate Student for an Academic Year, 20 hours per week- $6,500
  • Undergraduate Student for a Calendar Year, 40 hours per week during breaks, 20 hours per week during semester- $15,600
  • Graduate Student Stipend, Academic Year, 20 hours per week- $16,300
  • Graduate Student Stipend, Academic Year, 10 hours per week- $8,150
  • Graduate Student Stipend, One Semester, 20 hours per week- $8,150
  • Graduate Student Stipend, One Semester, 20 hours per week- $4,075
  • Support Graduate Student Tuition, annual rate, in-state- $12,862
  • Support Graduate Student Tuition, annual rate, out-of-state- $28,852

There are many other needs such as research supplies, student travel / conferences and even general operating costs.  Please contact our Associate Director to customize your giving package.


Your Will is a meaningful way to make a charitable gift to iCubed. Through a bequest, you can designate a specific amount of money, or a percentage of your estate. It is a simple process that begins with contacting your attorney.

Gifts of Tribute

Gifts to iCubed may be designated in-memory-of or in-honor-of a loved one, and can reflect the interests of the person being honored, such as a scientist or science lover in your life!

Life Insurance

By naming iCubed as an owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy, you can take an immediate tax deduction for any accumulated cash value, and a future deduction for any subsequent premiums.

Monthly Giving

Monthly gifts are especially important to iCubed because it provides us with a steady and predictable source of income at a lower cost than other fundraising methods.

Gifts of Appreciated Security

Make a gift of appreciated long-term security and receive a tax deduction for the market value at the time of donation.

Item Donations

If you have lab supplies, equipment or furnishings that may be of use in our research that you would like to donate we can put them to good use in our learning environment.

Matching Gifts

Many companies and foundations nationwide match employees’ gifts to charitable organizations. You can multiply the value of your gift. Please check with your personnel office.


iCubed hosts many special learning events, workshops and symposia.  We actively seek our sponsors to help offset production costs.

Donations made to iCubed are facilitated by the URI Foundation.  Established in 1957, the University of Rhode Island Foundation is an independent, 501 (c)(3) corporation charged with raising and managing private charitable support for the University. The Foundation’s daily operations are managed by a president, who reports to a volunteer Executive Board. The Foundation became responsible for all URI fundraising activities on January 1, 2008 and currently employs a professional staff of seasoned fundraisers, as well as development support personnel and financial management staff.  The URI Foundation exists to inspire and steward philanthropic support benefiting the University of Rhode Island.  The URI Foundation aspires to be a leader in university development in the University of Rhode Island’s pursuit of excellence.  To reach staff directly at the URI Foundation please call 401-874-7900.
