HIV exposure and decreased infant immunity

Dr. Barbara Payne, faculty member in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology and Immunology and Informatics at URI, in collaboration with investigators at the University of Nairobi, the University of Washington and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, analyzed T-cell receptor beta-chain repertoires of cord blood samples from HIV-exposed uninfected infants. The study’s findings shed light on the increased risk of morbidity in this population. The work was published in Scientific Reports.
