Program Director - Alan Rothman, M.D., Research Professor
Alan L. Rothman, M.D., is Research Professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, URI, and Head of iCubed’s Laboratory of Viral Immunity and Pathogenesis. He became involved in research on immunity and pathogenesis of viral diseases in humans during his fellowship in Infectious Diseases and has continued this research in collaboration with colleagues in the US and internationally in Thailand, Europe, and Latin America. Current studies involve both clinical and basic research studies on pathogenesis and immunity of emerging and re-emerging viral infections. A major focus of his research has been defining the virological and immunological events in acute dengue virus infection and their relationship to the development of the viral hemorrhagic fever syndrome. Dr. Rothman’s mentoring experience includes service as Program Director for an Institutional Training Grant (2005-2011) and direct mentoring for junior faculty, MD and PhD post-doctoral fellows, masters degree and undergraduate students.
